Q. How can Call It Quits help me quit smoking?
Call It Quits is a telephone service based here in Hawaii for people who want to quit smoking. It’s a confidential, free service that gives callers advice and help that is personalized for their particular needs.

When you call 1-800-QUIT NOW (1-800-784-8669) our specially trained Quit Coaches will talk story with you to learn how they can best support your goal of living tobacco free. The Quit Coaches can speak with you about any quitting issues like planning to quit and coping with withdrawal symptoms. They can also talk with you about different types of quitting products and methods that may be right for you, including nicotine patches, gum, inhalers, lozenge and nicotine free pills.

Call It Quits also has a callback service, where a Quit Coach will call you around your scheduled quit date to make sure you have the support you need to quit and stay quit. These calls are made on an individual basis and at convenient times for you. The callback service is completely confidential, and doesn’t cost you anything.

Q. How much does Call It Quits cost? Is it free?
Yes. No matter where you are statewide, you can call our toll-free number and receive free referrals and coaching support from the Quitline.

Q. Do I get any materials as part of the program?
Yes, if you enroll in Call It Quits, you will receive a printed Quit Guide that is relevant to where you are in the quitting process, The Quit Guides are full of information to help you get ready to quit, quit successfully and stay quit for good. They include information on:

  • Making the decision to quit
  • How to get ready to quit
  • Knowing what to expect while you’re quitting
  • How to cope with withdrawal symptoms and stress
  • How to ask friends, family and co-workers for support
  • How to avoid relapses

 

Q. What sort of person will I be talking to if I call?
All our Quit Coaches are very experienced at helping people over the phone. Each Quit Coach has completed comprehensive training in tobacco cessation and knows the latest methods to successfully quit tobacco. They are understanding and supportive because they know how hard it is to quit. They are never judgmental and they are here specifically to help you quit successfully.

Q. When can I talk with a Quit Coach?
Call It Quits is open 7 days a week from 5 am to 9 pm. If you would like to call after hours, leave a message and a Quit Coach will call you back.

Q. How often can I talk with a Quit Coach?
Call It Quits is here to help you throughout the quitting process. Your Quit Coach will schedule calls at your convenience during this time. You may also call in whenever you would like a little extra support.

Q. Will my call be kept confidential?
Absolutely, we comply with HIPAA – the federal act that ensures privacy – and only keep information that is relevant to providing you quality service. We will never pass on any of your personal information to anyone else.

Q. Can I call if my partner, friend, or relative wants to quit?
Certainly, our Quit Coaches will be happy to share ways that you can help support your friend or family member become tobacco free.

Q. What if I would like to speak to someone in a language other than English?
Currently, Call It Quits has the ability to speak with people in English, Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin. For other languages we have the ability to use an interpretive service.

Q. How is the Quitline funded?
The Hawaii Tobacco Quitline is being paid for by the Hawaii Tobacco Prevention and Control Trust Fund using funds that were received as part of a settlement with the tobacco industry.
